Queen's students are drawn from all across Canada and more than 123 countries around the world. International enrolment is 27% at the graduate level and nearly 11% at the undergraduate level.

Queen's encourages and provides support for numerous program initiatives designed to internationalize the curriculum and the learning environment, and places a strong emphasis on providing students with opportunities to gain international experience.

  • The university has a robust program of international exchange, involving bilateral agreements with more than 150 universities in 40 countries, and also has access to a further 60 universities through consortial exchanges.
  • Queen's operates an international campus, the Bader International Study Centre (BISC), at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, U.K., that offers high-quality programs in humanities, social sciences, business and law. Two special features are small class size and a rich program of field studies that are integral to every course. The BISC accepts students from universities around the world.
  • The Queen's University International Centre (QUIC) provides many programs and services to support the international student population. QUIC also provides resources for students who are seeking to deepen their international engagement by participating in activities on campus that expose them to a global perspective.

Comprehensive International Plan

Queen's Comprehensive International Plan (QUCIP) guides the university’s international activities and initiatives, decision-making, and resource allocation so that they reflect Queen's standards of excellence and are in alignment with the goals and objectives of Queen's Strategic Framework.

The QUCIP, which guides Queen’s international planning until 2019, is built on four themes:

  • International Research Engagement
  • International Mobility
  • International Enrolment Management
  • International at Home

Dr. Jill Scott, Interim Associate Vice-Principal (International)

Associate Vice-Principal (International)

In her role as Interim Associate Vice-Principal (International), Jill Scott leads the university’s strategic direction for all aspects of Queen’s international engagement. Working closely with faculties and schools, the Vice-Provost and Dean of Student Affairs and the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research), she is responsible for the implementation of the Queen’s University Comprehensive International Plan and supports strategic international relationships, institutional coordination, communication and collaboration across the university to assist students, faculty and staff to expand and grow international learning and research.

In addition to her role in the international portfolio, Dr. Scott currently holds the position of Vice-Provost (Teaching and Learning) and is professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures with cross-appointments to Gender Studies and Cultural Studies. Her research is divided between the areas of Indigenous language and cultural revitalization and assessment of learning in higher education. She is Principal Investigator for a HEQCO-funded, institution-wide, network-based research project focused on the development and assessment of cognitive skills in undergraduate education.
